Jon Swain in The Telegraph writes today: “Speaking in the House of Commons on Monday, the Chancellor made clear his irritation at moves by Ireland and Germany to guarantee all savers’ bank deposits, which raised expectations that he might do the same. Instead, as of today, deposits of up to £50,000 are protected by the Government. The Spanish government has also said it would act unilaterally to guarantee savers’ money if a Europe-wide agreement can not be reached.” Read the article here.
