The European Voice reports: “The European Parliament today (5 May) approved the accounts for the €1.4 billion it spent in 2008, despite admissions that more needed to be done to improve how it uses taxpayers' money.”

During the debates on the European Parliament’s discharge for 2008, we became aware how the European Parliament has been spending taxpayer’s money.

Some examples:

€35 million for the purchase of a building to be the office of the European Parliament in London

€453,643 for the rental of a European Parliament’s office in Bucharest

€26 million for an information office in Vienna

The European Parliament’s communications budget amounted €4 million

€251,300 for the Former Members' Association and the European Parliamentary Association

€191,607 for an EPP meeting in the French overseas department of Réunion

€3,357 for a PES meeting in Manchester

€80,000 for language courses and staff entertainment trips

€9 million for the EuroparlTV
